The urban intervention "Monarch Migration" was specially developed to be executed in June, during the traditional "Festas de Lisboa" (Lisbon festivities). During this time of the year, which runs from late May until early July, having its climax on the day of St. Anthony (13th of june), popular patron saint of Lisbon, some areas of the portuguese city, especially in the Alfama neighbourhood, are covered with ornaments and typical food stalls, all accompanied by a lot of music and popular parades.
The "Monarchs" are rubber stamp prints (acrylic paint) on small sheets of white tissue paper, approximate to the size of the colorful small flags used in Brazil during the month of june, during the celebrations of Sts. Antony, John and Peter. The prints were made using rubber stamps produced by the artist himself, from an original drawing of his authorship of a soldier in camouflage uniform with butterfly wings out of his back. |
